Stem Studio

Stem Studio is an incubator-backed Workplay Ventures product for browser-based 3D creation. The core bet was ambitious and concrete: bring a Unity-style creation environment to the web, so creators could build and interact with 3D scenes without a desktop toolchain.

  • Web-based 3D editor: Designed around the mental model of Unity, but delivered in the browser.
  • Creator workflow: Focused on reducing setup friction for people building interactive 3D content.
  • Product direction: Framed the product as a serious creation environment, not a lightweight viewer.

StemStudio sat inside the Workplay Ventures studio portfolio as an incubator-backed project. I helped move the concept from product thesis into the operating work needed to test and launch it.

  • Product thesis to prototype: shaped the initial product direction and helped turn the thesis into something the team could build and evaluate.
  • Funding story: supported the narrative needed to explain the opportunity, product, and path forward.
  • Team formation: helped define the early team needs required to move from concept to execution.
  • Release support and growth: supported the work around launch readiness, release execution, and early growth.

The platform connected device operations, deployment support, NOC workflows, customer and admin portals, weather prediction, energy planning, digital twins, on-prem compute clusters, security, and deep learning tools for error isolation.

Here One and Personal Listening

Doppler Labs built consumer audio products around Here One, smart earbuds that combined wireless listening with real-time control over the sound around the user. The product sat at the intersection of consumer hardware, companion mobile software, personal audio profiles, and accessibility use cases.

Smart earbuds: Shaped product work around Here One as a connected audio device, not just a headphone.

Companion app: Connected the hardware experience to mobile controls for listening modes, profiles, and user settings.

Personal listening profile: Supported individualized audio experiences based on user preferences and hearing needs.

Adaptive audio: Helped define product behavior for changing environments and real-time sound control.

Accessibility technology: Positioned personal listening as both a consumer feature and a practical aid for users who needed more control over speech, noise, and ambient sound.

Doppler Labs built Here One, a pair of wireless smart earbuds for personal listening and real-time control of the surrounding audio environment. The product combined consumer hardware, embedded audio processing, mobile software, and manufacturing constraints in a very small form factor.

I led software and hardware execution from concept to manufacturing, including:

  • Audio pipeline on an 11mm PCB: Guided execution for embedded audio processing inside a tightly constrained earbud architecture.
  • Remote update paths: Built update paths across system components so the product could improve after shipment.
  • Personalization technology: Delivered adaptive listening features that shaped the listening experience for each user.

Skype and Collaboration Platforms

Microsoft’s communications and collaboration portfolio spans consumer Skype, enterprise Skype for Business, and Microsoft Teams, with Teams later becoming the company’s primary collaboration hub across chat, meetings, files, and Microsoft 365 workflows. This work sat across that transition point, covering cross-platform product and engineering across established products, new collaboration surfaces, and platform infrastructure.

  • Skype mobile and Skype for Business: Product and engineering work across consumer and enterprise communications experiences.
  • Qik and early Teams: Collaboration product work during Microsoft’s shift toward newer mobile video and team-based communication models.
  • VS Code, notifications, and HoloLens prototypes: Platform and prototype work across developer tooling, notification infrastructure, and mixed-reality collaboration concepts.

Microsoft’s communications stack spans consumer calling, enterprise collaboration, developer tools, cloud services, and mixed reality. This work sat across that surface area: Skype, early Microsoft Teams work, VS Code product case support, Microsoft Notification Server architecture planning, and Skype/HoloLens prototyping.

  • Skype client-side engineering leadership: Led engineering work on the client side of Skype, a global voice, video, and messaging platform used across consumer and business communication.
  • Early Teams participation: Contributed as a founding participant in early Microsoft Teams work, before Teams became Microsoft’s primary collaboration hub for chat, meetings, calling, and Microsoft 365 workflows.
  • VS Code product case support: Supported product case work for Visual Studio Code, Microsoft’s open-source code editor and developer platform.
  • Microsoft Notification Server architecture planning: Helped plan architecture for Microsoft Notification Server, aligning notification delivery decisions with platform needs.
  • Skype/HoloLens prototyping: Built prototypes connecting Skype communication patterns with HoloLens mixed reality scenarios.

A mobile-first early social product for Facebook, built around lightweight prompts and group participation. The work sat close to Facebook’s broader social graph and Groups experience, where small interaction loops mattered for engagement and repeat use.

  • First implementation for Facebook Groups product: Built the initial product direction around group-based participation.
  • Mobile-first experience: Designed for quick posting and response patterns on mobile.
  • Lightweight social prompts: Used simple prompts to lower the effort required to start conversations inside groups.

This product explored prompt-driven social sharing inside Facebook Groups, a core part of Facebook’s community product. The work sat in an early social-product context, before lightweight prompts and status-style engagement patterns became common across consumer apps.

It focused on a simple product question: how to make it easier for people to share what they were thinking with a group, without needing to compose a full post from scratch.
